Inspired by medieval villages in Italy and the South of France, but also by traditional quilting techniques long practiced by women in the States: the blocking patterns of the traditional patchwork quilts of the Plains States, the idiosyncratic irregularity and lack of repetition of the crazy-quilt, and the geometrically placed remnant-strips technique of the women of Gee's Bend, Alabama.
Acrylic and molding paste on gallery-wrapped canvas with an acrylic satin varnish and built-in mounting bracket.
The title is painted on the inch and a half wide bottom edge of the canvas frame, where it can be viewed from below, but doesn't interfere with the picture itself.
