Brenda Helt is a San Diego based artist whose abstract impressionist and abstract expressionist paintings have been purchased for private collections across the country.
"I love the ocean; love to paint it. It's an ever-changing inspiration for my artwork. My abstract impressionist seascapes emphasize empty horizons and infinite space, and so inspire contemplation and invoke endless possibility. These paintings are informed by my sense that the sea often acts for us as an expression of our innermost selves—a sense shared by many, yet individual, personal, idiosyncratic. I try to imbue my seascapes with a spirit of solitude and sense of possibility. An emptiness that is at the same time a plenitude: an All in a Nothing.

"More difficult to characterize, my abstract expressionist work is generally inspired by music I’m listening to, a scene or idea from a book or a place I love, or a political event important to me. Inspired by these ideas, the paintings themselves in no way ‘represent’ these ideas. I hope others will respond to them, but viewers are unlikely to respond in the same way I do or to accord with the reasons I painted them. I love that about abstractions: no two people see the same thing in these paintings. It fascinates me to hear what viewers see in my paintings."
